The Moment of Tooth

Our Animal Hospital has a newsletter, a new website and August is Dental Health month and they offered a free check up. I booked Peri and Gilly in to have their teeth checked and then I started to worry that maybe there would be something wrong with their teeth. When in doubt: worry!!

Nurse Bridgette gave them the once over. They were so excited it took till we were about to leave for them to calm down, especially Gilly. She looked at the general colour of their teeth and used a special light to look for plaque. Peri's teeth were 10/10, but Gilly had a tiny pinhead sized spot on the top of one canine, which Nurse Bridgette was sure was just left over from breakfast. They passed with flying colours and each received a Dental Show bag of treats!!

They know me very well at the Animal Hospital. Afterwards they rang and left a message on my phone that said: It's Nurse Bridgette, but there's nothing wrong!!! When I rang back and thanked her for saying there was nothing wrong, she said that they all knew me very well, and said that so I wouldn't panic. They are very kind!!

My friend, Bella'sMum, is a grandmother for the first time. All very exciting and BabyBella is receiving a hat from me, whether she likes it or not!! It is nice to knit for my friends children and grandchildren and I made sure this Aviatrix hat could be machine washed. I love this pattern and I have knitted quite a few of them. Here's my 747 Hat, made in Sirdar Snuggly Tiny Tots on 4mm needles.

My Mum's Kind Hearts (and Coronets) Doily is blocking. The soft cotton was so lovely to knit with. It's ecru and I love the colour more than white. I ended up using five 2.5mm needles. To block it after the crocheted edging, I drew two circles on some fine interfacing and divided it into twelfths. I then pinned it to my stool. It was a Christmas present from MrsDrWho's brother and though great to sit on, it is fantastic for blocking a round doily!! I am not sure I have pinned it out correctly, but because the weather is so cold - there's snow on the mountains 90 minutes away- and there is no Sun, it's drying very slowly. I hope it is dry before Saturday when my Mum and Aunt are coming to visit.

I'd like to knit some more lacy things like this, I really enjoyed it and it wasn't hard to do at all. Mind you, starting off with eight stitches in the round was tricky.

Here's my Meret Christmas To Me beret.  I wear this all the time when I walk The Labradors. I was going to do fancy schmancy short rows to make the ribbing at the front narrower, but in the end I just turn it back once so it sits behind my fringe, but still keeps my ears warm. I shall eventually tack it down. This is a good pattern, but the lace is pretty much the same as my other beret. I need a beret change for the next one.

Here is my newest pair of socks- Socks But No Violence- though I only photographed one as the other was grubby from being dropped in the mud.  Just a plain pair of warm 8ply socks. I use the Thuja socks as inspiration. I use 4mm needles and 44 stitches for the cuff/leg and only 40 for the foot. It takes just a ball of wool and an evening or so to make each sock. They are nice and warm for wearing about the house.

Although I still haven't finished my You Only Rib Twice Cardigan, I am starting a new one next week. I am not sure which cardigan. I want a lacy Spring cardigan. It has to be 8ply because the colour I want only comes in 8ply.  I'm considering these:

• Nantucket Red
• Madrigal
• Petrea with narrower sleeves
• Cinnie
• Cece but longer
  

I bought two new fat quarters: owls and sheep, no dogs this time. I am not an owl fan really, but I know people who are and knitters must like sheep!!

Nestles has new Caramel Bits. I am very excited because I see other flavours of 'Bits' in the wide world and wish for them here too. I baked the Caramel Biscuits from the recipe on the back of the packet and it will be my Friday Food recipe. They were yummy. There is still cocoa in the Bits, but I ate two biscuits, cautiously. Yum!! I can see myself making teeny tiny caramel chip biscuits sandwiched together with home made caramel: even more delicious!!

Although they are curled up on the couch asleep, Peri Naughty and Lorelai Gilmore have been running very fast at the Dam every morning. The puddles were iced over this morning and it was so cold. I was rugged up well and had Spinach dog biscuits cut into tiny pieces in my pocket. They run like mad things when I call them to come!!

I met Baby Zoe's grandfather in the Hospital last week when he was going back to work and Baby Zoe's transplant is going well, though some other pesky medical issues are not playing nicely.

At The Arlympics (for that is apparently how you say Olympics) Silver medals are frowned upon, and not good enough for the Powers That Be. I think if you are better than all bar one of the seven billion people on Earth, it is something to be proud of. In fact even being chosen to go to The Olympics is reason to cheer.

I certainly don't think that schools should do more compulsory Sport to supply the Olympic officials here with Athlete Fodder. PE is already compulsory here and in Primary School we have Daily PE, PE lessons, and in Grade's 5 and 6 Friday Afternoon Sport where the children experience a range of sports and are encouraged to develop fitness and good sporting behaviour.

Our Olympic TV coverage is woeful. MrsDrWho is recording some Gymnastics for me and I shall enjoy watching that. Otherwise I have watched almost all the Planet of the Apes movies which were shown on consecutive nights on TV. We are up to the one made in 2000 tonight. They are both terrible and wonderful!!! I've also been napping and continuing to fight off a prospective cold. In fact I think I will put The Labradors' rice on to cook, and then have a little nap right now.

I saw the caramel bits at the shops recently and though ooh yum! Next I think we need some minty bits, that would be just lovely. I'm looking forward to seeing your caramel bits biscuits on Friday Food and I think you have got the good idea there sandwiching them with more caramel! I do love caramel!

wow you have been busy with your knitting, I hesitated when I saw the 'C' word used in one of your hat patterns, oh no I thought not that time of year I detest, but I am OK now, heart not racing, it's only a hat pattern I thought!! I agree the Olympic coverage is dreadful that Mcguire thing makes my skin crawl and after his comment about that poor swimmer being "chubby" he should of been sent home immediately and gagged forever!!!! I hope you are feeling well. I start chemo infusions at the Holman clinic on Friday and am very scared

Oooh I got very excited by your caramel bits. We don't have anything like that here - just boring old choc chips so when I go to the US, I do go a bit mad in the baking section.

one of the bouvier des flandres we had, had horrible teeth :/ needed them cleaned every year. had to knock him out since he was so big (gentle giant tho)

I love all the makings above, especially the baby hat - it looks very sweet. Once again so nice to see those dear doggie faces and as for those pearly whites - well what can I say !!! :)

Wow, you have been busy with all those FOs. The doily looks great & thanks for the idea of drawing a circle for blocking. I always have a problem blocking a circular piece. I am so glad that we have Foxtel or I will be missing out of the Olympics if I rely on Channel 9.

I want that sheep fabric. Do you know the manufacturer? I wonder if I can find it in the US.

oh so much to consider! i should get my mutts teeth checked too, altho the butcher said to me the other day 'your dogs must have the best teeth around' (so many bones). yes i think they do! the olympics coverage was a bloody national disgrace. can we not do something about that idiot Maguire? i loooove the hat and doily, and i think thuja's are one of my favourite sock patterns ever! you have been very busy!
