Happy Feat

Today I sewed penguins, there was fortuitously a pattern in the English Women's Weekly Christmas magazine. Yesterday MrsDrWho, The Devil Spawn and I went to see Happy Feet and so I made a my-fashioned Mumble and Gloria. They were very quick to make, though I accidentally made the feet larger. Oops, they look OK though. They are for The DS, I hope she likes them. The Labradors desperately want the penguins. As soon as the penguins had eyes, they became TeddyBunnies, and candidates for being carried in Labradors' mouths while they run about. Thier own toys won't do, it has to be stuffed penguins. Apparently!!!
I like this picture of The Labradors because it looks like they are being the god Janus, the Roman god of the new year, of beginnings and endings: Peri is looking back to last year, and Harki is looking forward to this year. Today they have been hot and I have been hot and Harki has been playing with a squeaky toy and Peri has been carrying round the Christmas card from Wee Jock the One-eyed Westie!!! It must smell all doggy!!!
I have started the Block of Chocolate socks (BOC), the blocks are rather large but then MrsDrWho is not a woman of chocolate restraint!! The wool is lovely to knit and I have to do 7 repeats of the blocks before I can start the heel. I knitted all the sock yesterday, it is very quick.
MrsDrWho does not always stick her fingers in her ears and go La la la la la when I talk about knitting because she bought me a Stitchy McYarnpants book for Christmas. It is meant to be full of horrendous patterns but for me, it is redolent with childhood memories. My mother knitted these things and we wore them, unquestioningly. They didn't seem wrong then?? I am so anti-cool anyway that I would probably wear some of them now!!! She gave the book with the proviso that I knit nothing from the book for here, hence the BOC socks.
Whilst walking through town my excellent peripheral vision caught a glimpse of something in House's window, and on backtracking, my brain finally processed the image and the thought: 3D Christmas Biscuit Cutters. How cute are they?? I am going to be helping children at school make 3D biscuits in about 11 months!! Nothing like starting Christmas early. Oh and if you live here and want some TeachMe Christmas crafts, there are some in Officeworks for $2 a pack. There are tri-fold cards, scrapbookin' sets, gift tags, 3D starts and angels and embellishments. They are great for the classroom or for home. What a bargain!!!
I must spend a little time updating my books and things that I have made lists. I have been very remiss. I have been reading quite a lot, and I have sewn quite a few things too. Oh, Rox sent me a lovely magnet in a Wintry card!!! It is a very cute puppy and I shall stick it on my cork board near the computer!!!
I made the easiest Potato things this afternoon, they were on BH&G but the recipe is pretty generic, so here goes:
Potato Croquettes
- 2 cups cold mashed potato, or other vegetables like carrots or sweet potatoes
- 1/2 cup white sauce, (I made a bechamel, but you can use a tetra pack from the shop)
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan
- 1 lightly beaten egg
- plain flour
- breadcrumbs
- vegetable oil for frying
Mix the potato, white sauce and cheese very thoroughly. Divide into about 10 equal pieces and make into the shape you like best!!! Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Then, heat a little oil in a non-stick pan on medium heat. Dip the croquettes into the flour, egg and then crumb them. Fry on each side till golden brown. This is a great way of using up leftover vegies and you could add some bacon, onion, whatever takes your fancy!!! They're really yummy!!!
Awww - the penguins are adorable. The BOC socks have now put me in mind to some how create socks made of actual chocolate!

I think the dogs are looking for their own stuffe penguins to play with -- they're so very cute. I haven't seen the movie but my five year old loved it so I have no doubt that we'll end up getting it on DVD.

The penguins are adorable. We took the boys to Flushed Away yesterday. I wouldn't want to make a stuffed toy of anything from that movie LOL!

According to my Tiny Madam, her imaginary friend can knit socks out of chocolate (and wood)! What a coincidence she has been going on about this for days!

I love the penguins. They remind me of the one in Wallace and Grommit.
The sock looks good enough to eat. I wish I could knit socks as fast as you though!

Happy New Year!!!!
pleased to have given you a thrill with my lovely shoes - they were HTHT - Had To Have Them shoes, along with a stripey pair that I will reveal another time (not green though, 1 green pair is enough for my wardrobe). I do feel fabulous strutting my stuff with pointy green feet - these short, wide (D+) feet don't get many pointy opportunities :)
