Don't Fence Me Out

Why_are_you_so_far_away Oh the heat, the humidity....we are all melting as if we are Wicked Witches!!! No house on top of me needed. At. All. Harki and Peri have taken to the paddle pool as if they are canine Thorpedoes and the actually like being misted with the spray bottle.Born_free

Yesterday they were invited to the cafe on the corner, very posh, very cool, for afternoon tea with Miss Darkside, Ms Stash and Sandra D. They brought them SchmAfternoon_snackackos!!! Despite this there was whining and panting and needing to be near us. I took water and Peri's tin dish, but there was a big bucket of water provided, and The Labradors felt very welcome. They had treats and water and shade and ever so many pats. The Labradors are cute: and they know it!! Harki was an angel and clever Peri carried her dish all the way back to the car!! A good time was had by all the grownups too: yummy snacks and real tea and amusing conversation.

We have Thank_you_katie_silk_tea_and_a_seal_tooother presents too, from Katie and Penny!! For The Labradors: tasty Lamb treats and tennis balls so good the other 24 have been spurned!! And for me the most beautiful silk and Irish Breakfast tea!! I drink lots of tea in the hot Heres_your_present_from_katie_and_pennyweather. Obviously we are all very spoiled here!!! I think I might knit this scarf. It will be green goodness personified.

Now I have a list of clicky links. The Internet has been awash with disgruntled users lately. The 'Blugger" fiasco, where it decides you can't comment, and my blog apparently wreaks vengeance in a similar way at times. It is just like the VHS/Beta debate writ internetally large. Why can't all the blogs just get along???

I Heart Knitting  and I are having our own Baudelairealong!! I have promised to dig mine out as soon as it is cool!!!

There are a lot of new KALs about to sign up for, and also Project Spectrum 2.0. I'm not signing up this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it last time,  but I want to make green things in Twenty O Seven.

Want to vote in the Macquarie Dictionary's poll?? Go ahead!!!

How about the new Australian version of Monopoly?? Voting starts on January 8th.

Food for thought? Whether you agree or not with the opinions expressed, we are definitely living in interesting and nervous times. I feel more than a little paranoid.

There are still people making a difference. I promised I would link, so here it is.

Cleopatra_and_mrsdrwhos_toes It has just started to rain. I think it is a token effort and won't cool us down or water the garden, but we will make the best of it.

MrsDrWho's new kitten, Cleo!!! Gratuitous Cat Photos now, what is the world coming too?? I am her Auntie 2paw, so I am allowed to indulge her.

Tomorrow or the next day I will have more photos of things I have made. I can also write up The Block of Chocolate sock pattern, no worries, but I expect I should finish them first!!!

Happy Feat

Today I Two_penguins_suited_upsewed penguins, there was fortuitously a pattern in the English Women's Weekly Christmas magazine. Yesterday MrsDrWho, The Devil Spawn and I went to see Happy Feet and so I made a my-fashioned Mumble and Gloria.  They were very quick to make, though I accidentally made the feet larger. Oops, they look OK though. They are for The DS, I hope she likes them. The Labradors desperately want the penguins. As soon as the penguins had eyes, they became TeddyBunnies, and candidates for being carried in Labradors' mouths while they run about. Thier own toys won't do, it has to be stuffed penguins. Apparently!!!

I like this picture of The Labradors because it looks like they are being the god Janus, the Roman god of the new year, of beginnings and endings: Peri is looking back to last year,Labradors_doing_a_janus_impersonation  and Harki is looking forward to this year. Today they have been hot and I have been hot and Harki has been playing with a squeaky toy and Peri has been carrying round the Christmas card from Wee Jock the One-eyed Westie!!! It must smell all doggy!!!

I have started the Block of Chocolate socks (BOC), the blocks are rather large but then MrsDrWho is not a woman of chocolate restraint!! The wool is lovely to knit and I have to do 7 repeats of the blocks before I can start the heel. I Block_of_chocolate_sock_started knitted all the sock yesterday, it is very quick.

MrsDrWho does not always stick her fingers in her ears and go La la la la la when I talk about knitting because she bought me a Stitchy McYarnpants book for Christmas. It is meant to be full of horrendous patterns but for me, it is redolent with childhood memories. My mother knitted these things and we wore them, unquestioningly. They didn't seem wrong then?? I am so anti-cool anyway that I would probably wear some of them now!!! She gave the book with the proviso that I knit nothing from the book for here, hence the BOC socks.La_la_la_la_la_la_la

Whilst walking through town my excellent peripheral vision caught a glimpse of something in House's window, and on backtracking, my brain finally processed the image and the thought: 3D Christmas Biscuit Cutters. How cute are they?? I am going to be helping children at school make 3D biscuits in about 11 months!! Nothing like starting Christmas early. Oh and if you live here and want some TeachMe Christmas crafts, there are some in Officeworks for $2 a pack. For_this_christmas_3d_cutter There are tri-fold cards, scrapbookin' sets, gift tags, 3D starts and angels and embellishments. They are great for the classroom or for home. What a bargain!!!

I must spend a little time updating my books and things that I have made lists. I have been very remiss. I have been reading quite a lot, and I have sewn quite a few things too. Oh, Rox sent me a lovely magnet in a Wintry card!!! It is a very cute puppy and I shall stick it on my cork board near the computer!!! A_lovely_puppy_magnet_from_rox

I made the easiest Potato things this afternoon, they were on BH&G but the recipe is pretty generic, so here goes:

Potato Croquettes

  • 2 cups cold mashed potato, or other vegetables like carrots or sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup white sauce, (I made a bechamel, but you can use a tetra pack from the shop)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • plain flour
  • breadcrumbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

Mix the potato, white sauce and cheese very thoroughly. Divide into about 10 equal pieces and make into the shape you like best!!! Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Then, heat a little oil in a non-stick pan on medium heat. Dip the croquettes into the flour, egg and then crumb them. Fry on each side till golden brown. This is a great way of using up leftover vegies and you could add some bacon, onion, whatever takes your fancy!!! They're really yummy!!!
